the art of self defense

Krav Maga was developed in Israel and is a system of military self-defense. It combines techniques from several martial arts to provide an effective defense. Krav Maga has a reputation for being efficient and focusing on real-life situations. It's a practical and effective way to protect yourself from an attack.

Origins

Krav Maga's origins are pre-World War II Eastern Europe. Imre Litchenfeld, a Jewish martial artist, organized a group to fight for the defense of Jews in Bratislava (Czechoslovakia) in the 1920s. He changed the name of Krav Maga to better suit his martial art and started teaching it to Zionist Jews. This style eventually became integrated into the early IDF.

Imi Lightenfeld fled Nazi Germany and emigrated in Palestine. He trained fighters in the area and was later appointed Chief Instructor of Physical Fitness with the IDF. Imi taught martial art and self-defense as well as knife defense. His method has been used by Israel Defense Force (IDF), over 20 years.

Principles

Krav Maga has two goals: to protect yourself and to neutralise your attacker. Fights are possible and necessary from time to time, but they can be counterproductive. An attacker might cause injury to their own or others. You can protect yourself by not getting into a violent situation. You can also make the situation worse by using counterattacks. Using situational awareness will help you identify potential threats.

Krav Maga shows you how to defend yourself with the proper amount of force. This will prevent you from being sued or facing criminal charges. When you defend yourself, you must consider the right application of force and whether or not it is legal.

Training methods

One of the most effective self-defense techniques is Krav Maga. Even though the art isn't as precise as karate and aikido it's based upon natural instincts, human reactions, and not on precision. The technique becomes second nature through repetition and practice. It is ingrained in muscle memory. You can use it even in high stress situations. The techniques used in Krav Maga can be performed with the use of everyday objects or weapons.

KravMaga's origins date back to the 1930s. This was when anti-Semitic protests threatened Jews in Bratislava. Imi Lichtenfeld began to train fighters to protect Jewish neighborhoods. He realized that street fighting was very different to the competitions. Also, that the techniques of boxing and wrestling were not appropriate for street combat. Lichtenfeld developed the Krav Maga techniques.

The cost of Krav Maga classes depends on where you live. There may be additional costs if instructors travel long distances to reach you. It is important to inquire about these details upfront. Additional services and discounts may also be available that will lower the cost for your classes. Krav classes generally last for around two hours.
